かつぎだす【担ぎ出す】

1 〔担いで運び出す〕 carry [take, bring] sth out of 《a house》.

●倉庫から麻袋を担ぎ出した. We carried the gunny bags out of the store house (on our backs).

2 〔ある人を新たに推す〕 persuade sb to stand for 《the chairmanship》; put up sb for 《president》.

●市長選に担ぎ出された知事の息子はまだ 30 歳である. The governor's son, who has been persuaded to 《米》 run [《英》 stand] for mayor, is still only thirty.
